Cold Brew Instructions
Cold brewing is an easy way to make a smooth, low acidity cup of coffee with kitchen tools.
What you will need:
- Coarse ground coffee
- A scale
- A cold brew device or any vessel with a covering
- Filtered water
It is important to use good water when brewing. Water with a chlorine taste or odor, or other heavy chemical tastes and odors, will import those tastes and odors into your coffee. You can use bottled water, or buy a simple carbon filter to attach to your sink if you live in an area with highly treated water.
The benefit to buying a cold brew device, like in the picture, is that it is easier to strain out the coffee grounds by simply removing the filter. If you are using a jar, you will have to strain the coffee through a fine sieve, or coffee filter, before drinking.
Fill your brew device with a ratio of 1:8 coffee to cold water. This recipe calls for 4oz of coarsely ground coffee and 32oz of filtered water.
Fill your brew device with water.
Let sit for 18-24 hours at room temperature. Then remove the coffee grounds and refrigerate. The cold brew will be good for 7-10 days in the refrigerator.
